Kizzy Crawford and Ellie Makes Music plus support

Date: Wednesday, 8th July 2015
Time: 7:00 pm

Two fantastic young Welsh artists in one evening! A stunning young songwriter and vocalist and a “wonderful” (BBC Radio 4) “real talent” (Huw Stevens) and Ellie Makes Music, a bold powerful singer songwriter whose drawn comparisons to Laura Marling.  Last time Kizzy was at Blue Sky she played a short set, but if you were there it was one that will have stuck with you. A Welsh speaker with Bajan heritage, Eighteen year old Kizzy Crawford’s solo career began just two years ago. In that time, Kizzy has developed an increasing sophistication to her songwriting and performance, which is complimented by her soaring voice that boasts both range and charisma. Her ambition as a black Welsh artist is to make her mark by fusing bilingual soul/jazz and she’s already getting recognition for her work with airplay on BBC Radio 1, BBC 6Music, BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio Wales, BBC Radio Cymru as well as live TV performances on S4C, Children in Need for BBC 1 and the 6 Nations advert campaign. Kizzy won the ‘Brwydr Y Bandiau’ at the National Eisteddfod 2013. She also won a Welsh Singer-Songwriter competition receiving money to record her first EP ‘Temporary Zone’ with Amy Wadge (signed to BDI Music and Ed Sheeran/Lewis Watson co-writer).  In the summer, Kizzy singed to publishing company BDi / Bucks Music and Kizzy was a featured artist with Gwilym Simcock for a BBC Radio 4 music programme she has played many gigs including shows at WOMEX, London Jazz Festival, Swn Festival, Hay Festival, Festival No 6, Dinefwr Festival, Glastonbury, Wakestock, and she has supported Sarah Gillespie, Gruff Rhys and Newton Faulkner. Kizzy is one of the BBC Horizons artist of the year, which sees her playing various BBC events and radio sessions including a live sessions at BBC Maida Vale. Kizzy recently toured Canada culminating in a showcase at the Prince Edward Island Festival. She also recently played a showcase at the House of Commons, Westminster alongside Cerys Matthews. She has been described as “A star in the making, not only a great songwriter but also an experienced and polished performer” (Stereoboard), and we’d certainly agree!

ELLIE MAKES MUSIC has been described as sounding like ‘A Welsh Taylor Swift!’ or ‘Laura Marling’s Little Sister’. Two bold statements indeed, but if you knew that ELLIE was complimented in the Horizon’s Awards at this year’s BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards live from The Royal Albert Hall, has played a gig at The Houses Of Parliament with Cerys Matthews, Mark Ellen, Mark Radcliffe and Controller Radio Radio 2 & 6 Music in attendance as invited guests, and had her song ‘Company’ featured on Peacocks’ 2014 Christmas ad, then maybe, just maybe, those bold opening statements don’t seem so overblown anymore! With influences ranging from Joni Mitchell, Ellie Goulding, Nick Drake, to Lucy Rose, ELLIE MAKES MUSIC coaxes the singer songwriter genre towards something new, a place of hope: somewhere honest and sincere.
