English pianist and composer John Taylor (1942-2015) was a hugely influential figure on the UK and European jazz scenes. Huw Warren has put together this project playing some of John’s best know compositions with drummer Zoot Warren and a 7 piece band made up of students from the RWCMD in Cardiff. They play the same programme in Cardiff the day before bringing some of the brightest new talent in the Welsh jazz scene to Bluesky!
John Taylor (universally known as JT) was a massive inspiration for many younger musicians, and incredibly supportive to many of the younger generation, including Huw himself, and they appeared together(2 pianos) as part of the Kenny Wheeler 70th birthday tour in 2000. Many of his compositions such as Ambleside, O and Windfall have become modern standards and will be featured in the gig.
Special thanks to RWCMD for their assistance with this project
